We are looking at <strong><em>the position of humanity.<\/em><\/strong> Our text tells us also that it is <strong><em>a depraved state.<\/em> <\/strong>The rotting flesh of this corpse\u00a0verse one tells us can do nothing but trespasses and sin. The two words are great picture words. The word trespasses means that God has put all around man no trespassing signs and all he can do is go beyond them and do as he pleases. The word sin\u00a0 is a bowmen&#8217;s\u00a0term that means to miss the bull&#8217;s-eye and not share in\u00a0the prize. So we see that man is a rotting corpse who\u00a0can do nothing but trespasses and sin floating down the river towards a fall of damnation into the eternal lake of fire.
