In our text today our Lord gives <strong><em>an equitable penalty<\/em><\/strong>. The penalty was and eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Our system today of imposing fines of dollar amounts is not hard upon the rich but only upon the poor. Our Lord&#8217;s penalty would cause all to pay the same price. If in anger you cause one to be hurt or die you would pay the same as you inflicted upon them. I fear if this was impose\u00a0and swiftly\u00a0it would deter men from crime.
