The first thing to catch my eye is the phrase \u2018<em>I know\u2019<\/em>. The one who claimed to be the first and last, and the one who was dead and is now alive says \u2018I know\u2019. I am glad we have a Savior that knows all about our situations. The songwriter said, \u2018I know He cares, O yes He cares, His heart is touched with my grief\u2019. It seems this church is undergoing <em>great works of tribulation and poverty<\/em>. These are words used to describe spiritual persecution. These attacks were coming from the Jews of which Jesus did not refer to as His people but are of <em>the synagogue of Satan<\/em>. This persecution left the Church at Smyrna economically at a poverty level. I rejoice in the message from our Lord left in parenthesis to this church. He told them \u2018<em>but thou art rich\u2019<\/em>. It matters not the state this world may leave you in.
